Who Can Schedule a Pickup?

How the Pickup Process Works

  1. Contact Us

Call 323.581.5700 or email rich@ak-recycling.com to describe what you have and where you are located. Give us a rough count of items or an estimate of volume. The more detail you can provide, the better we can prepare.

  2. Confirm the Schedule

We will work with you to find a pickup date and time window that fits your schedule and ours. For most standard Los Angeles area pickups, we can accommodate you within one to three business days.

  3. Prepare Your Equipment

You do not need to do much preparation. If you would like us to perform certified data destruction, let us know in advance so we can have the appropriate documentation ready. Remove any ink or toner cartridges from printers. Beyond that, just have the equipment accessible.

  4. Our Crew Arrives

Our trained recycling technicians arrive within your scheduled window. We handle all the loading—including heavy items like servers and large displays—and transport everything on our licensed and insured vehicles.

  5. Intake & Documentation

At our facility, all collected items are logged and inventoried. We prepare your documentation package including a certificate of recycling and, if requested, a certificate of data destruction.

  6. Receive Your Documents

Your documentation is delivered digitally within a few business days. These records are suitable for your compliance files, environmental reporting, or any audit requirements your organization may face.

What to Expect on Pickup Day

Professional Crew

Our pickup technicians are trained, background-checked, and experienced in handling electronics of all types. They arrive in uniform and in marked vehicles.

We Do the Heavy Lifting

Servers, rack-mount equipment, and large displays are heavy and awkward. Our crew brings appropriate equipment to move heavy items safely, protecting both the equipment and your facility.

Chain of Custody

Everything collected is documented on an intake form signed by your representative. This creates the beginning of the chain-of-custody record that follows your equipment through processing.

Full Compliance

AK Recycling is a licensed and certified e-waste recycler in California. Our pickups are fully compliant with California's e-waste regulations, including proper manifesting and transportation requirements.

Zero Landfill Commitment

None of the electronics we collect ends up in a landfill. All materials are either refurbished for reuse or processed through certified downstream recyclers. Learn more about our certifications.

Data Security

For equipment containing storage devices, we offer certified data destruction with documented chain of custody. See our data security page for full details on our methods and compliance standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance do I need to schedule a pickup?

For standard business pickups in the greater Los Angeles area, we typically ask for at least 24 to 48 hours of advance notice. This allows us to dispatch the right size vehicle and appropriate crew for your specific job. For routine or recurring pickups, we can often accommodate same-day or next-business-day service depending on our schedule.

Large-scale pickups—such as data center decommissions, multi-floor office clearouts, or school district IT refreshes—require more planning. For jobs of significant size, we recommend contacting us at least one to two weeks in advance. This ensures we have the right equipment, adequate staffing, and all necessary documentation prepared before arrival.

Emergency situations occasionally arise, such as an unexpected facility closure or rapid office relocation. In these cases, call us directly at 323.581.5700 and we will do our best to accommodate your timeline. We understand that business operations do not always run on predictable schedules, and we strive to be as flexible as possible.

The best way to initiate a pickup request is by calling our office or sending an email to rich@ak-recycling.com with a brief description of what you have, an approximate quantity, and your preferred pickup window. We will get back to you promptly to confirm details and finalize the schedule.

Is there a minimum quantity required to schedule a pickup?

For our free pickup service, we generally look for a minimum volume that makes the dispatch economically feasible—typically a pallet or more of equipment, or enough material to fill at least a portion of a truck. Smaller loads are better accommodated by our drop-off service at our Los Angeles facility at 2105 E. 25th ST.

That said, we evaluate each situation individually. If your organization is located in an area we're already serving, or if you are a regular client, we can often arrange pickup of smaller quantities at no additional cost. Please describe your situation when you call, and we will find the most efficient solution for you.

For businesses with recurring recycling needs—perhaps monthly or quarterly equipment retirement as part of an IT lifecycle management program—we can establish a regular pickup schedule regardless of quantity. This is particularly useful for organizations that continuously cycle through equipment and prefer not to accumulate items before requesting service.

When in doubt, call us. We would much rather tell you the most convenient option than have you guess. Our goal is to make responsible recycling as easy as possible for your organization, whatever your volume.

What areas does AK Recycling serve for pickups?

AK Recycling provides pickup service throughout Los Angeles County, including the City of Los Angeles and surrounding communities such as Culver City, Inglewood, Torrance, Long Beach, Compton, Gardena, Hawthorne, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Carson, Lakewood, Downey, Norwalk, Whittier, Montebello, Commerce, Vernon, and many more.

We also serve communities in the San Gabriel Valley, including Pasadena, Arcadia, Monrovia, El Monte, West Covina, Pomona, and Ontario. The San Fernando Valley communities of Burbank, Glendale, North Hollywood, Van Nuys, Reseda, Northridge, and Chatsworth are within our service area as well.

For locations outside Los Angeles County—including Orange County, Riverside County, San Bernardino County, and Ventura County—we can often arrange service, though minimum volume requirements and scheduling lead times may differ. Please call us at 323.581.5700 to discuss service availability for your specific location.

Our central location in Los Angeles at 2105 E. 25th ST. gives us efficient access to freeways and surface streets throughout the region. We operate a fleet of vehicles ranging from cargo vans for smaller loads to full-size box trucks for larger quantities, allowing us to match the right vehicle to your job.

What happens to my equipment after it is picked up?

After pickup, your equipment is transported to our certified processing facility in Los Angeles. Upon arrival, all items are logged into our inventory system and inventoried by type and quantity. If you have requested itemized asset reporting, we prepare a detailed manifest of everything received.

Equipment that still has usable life may be refurbished and redirected to beneficial reuse—sold to other businesses, donated to qualified nonprofits, or otherwise kept in productive service. This extends the useful life of electronics and reduces the demand for new manufacturing. Equipment that has reached the end of its useful life is sorted by material type and processed for recycling.

Hazardous materials such as CRT glass, batteries, and capacitors are segregated and routed to certified downstream processors with the appropriate permits and capabilities. We maintain strict chain-of-custody documentation throughout this process, which is part of what our <Link href="/certifications">e-Steward certification</Link> requires.

For any equipment containing data storage devices, we follow our certified <Link href="/data-security">data destruction protocols</Link>. Hard drives and other storage media are wiped to DOD standards, degaussed, or physically shredded depending on your requirements. Certificates of data destruction are provided upon request. You will receive your documentation package—including certificate of recycling and, if applicable, certificate of data destruction—within a few business days of the pickup.

Do I need to be present during the pickup?

An authorized representative of your organization should be present at the start of the pickup to greet our crew, confirm the scope of work, and sign our chain-of-custody intake form. This is a standard part of our process that protects both your organization and ours, and ensures accurate documentation of what was collected.

For large jobs that span multiple hours or require access to different areas of your facility, the point of contact does not need to remain with our crew throughout the entire process. Once access has been granted and the scope of work is confirmed, our team can work independently. We will find your representative when we are ready to conclude and have you sign off on the completed job.

If your organization has specific access requirements—such as security badge check-in, escort requirements, elevator reservations, or loading dock scheduling—please let us know in advance. We are experienced working in corporate environments, data centers, healthcare facilities, and government buildings, all of which often have strict access protocols. We will comply fully with your facility&apos;s security requirements.

In cases where a representative truly cannot be present—for example, if a facility manager needs to leave before we arrive—we can sometimes make arrangements for unattended access with appropriate documentation. However, we prefer to have someone on-site to ensure the job is completed to your satisfaction and that our documentation is complete.
